SUMMER 2007 CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR HOMESCHOOLERS
MURFREESBORO, TENNESSEE (JULY 2007)

About the Workshops
The Summer Creative Writing Workshops are designed to instruct home-educated students in the art of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writing. Each workshop will include instruction regarding technique, form, and revision. Students will also prepare a manuscript to be sent to a literary magazine for publication consideration.

About the Instructor
The Summer Creative Writing Workshops will be taught by Heather Louise Kapavik, a senior-level creative writing student at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. She has served as student faculty at university-sponsored creative writing workshops for high school students, and has been published in The Torch literary magazine. She has studied under poet Bobby C. Rogers and was recently awarded 2nd place for a nonfiction piece in a university-wide creative writing competition.

Materials Needed/Tentative Location
Please bring a notebook, writing utensils, and a sack lunch. To be held tentatively at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Workshop Dates
Junior High (Grades 6-Cool Workshop
Friday, July 6, 2007 / 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
General creative writing workshop with instruction in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writing. Students will study famous writers and create a manuscript for publication consideration. $35 per student. Limit 15 students.

Senior High (Grades 9-12) Workshop
Friday, July 13, 2007 / 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
General creative writing workshop with instruction in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry writing. Students will study famous writers and create a manuscript for publication consideration. $35 per student. Limit 15 students.

Poetry Writing Workshop (Grades 7-12)
Friday, July 20, 2007 / 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Workshop with an emphasis in poetry writing and the lyric sequence. Students will study famous poets and create a manuscript for publication consideration. $35 per student. Limit 15 students.

Fiction/Nonfiction Writing Workshop (Grades 7-12)
Friday, July 27, 2007 / 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Workshop with an emphasis in fiction and nonfiction writing. Students will study famous fiction and nonfiction writers and create a manuscript for publication consideration. $35 per student. Limit 15 students.
